Kenya’s largest referral hospital KNH has once again been exposed for uncouth internal affairs.
Last year, a depressed post-graduate medical student at the UoN committed suicide inside her car by injecting herself with anaesthesia-inducing drugs at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) parking lot.
Dr Lydia Wahura Kanyoro, who died by suicide is just one of many rising cases of depression and personal health problems among medical students and doctors.
Reports indicate so many medical staff are suffering depression and other mental-related illnesses, a fact that experts have attributed to the tough working conditions among other things.
“Such cases have increased but remain largely under-reported, especially among the Masters students,” a source at KNH.
According to source, about 6 doctors have committed suicide in the past 12 most have them have raised concerns about the incresaed mortality and unsafe conditions with which the clinicians were exposed to in the hospital. The management ignored them
There have been numerous attempts by the doctors to have management and mismanagement issues at the hospital affecting their working conditions ironed out but the CEO Evanson Kamuri has been defensive and ignored all the concerns.
There have been demos organized by the doctors in the recent past and more so they wanted the rising mortality rate at the hospital addressed the blamed the negligence by the hospital management as a cause of the deaths, in response, the CEO sacked a number of doctors who led in the demos.
The CEO has been accused of having turned KNH to his own home and a brothel where he’s accused of sleeping with many women. Disgruntled staff are accusing him of having engraved corruption and impunity at the hospital that he’s regarded as untouchable.
There are also claims of Kemsa Covid consumables having been smuggled through the hospital.
COVID-19 Donations were stolen by Kamuri and friends. Lately they stage managed some theft in the pharmacies and drugs estimated Kshs. 15 Million were stolen.
In a latest scandal where there’s a coverup ongoing with help of DCI and EACC officers, Kamuri is accused of planning to effect a Sh100M insurance claim that never happened.
