How DP Ruto used Senator Linturi’s ex-wife to block Waiguru’s impeachment

Dr. William Ruto’s former Chief of staff and Senator Mithika Linturi’s ex-wife Marianne Kitany has revealed how DP Ruto used her to block Anne Waiguru’s impeachment.

Ms Kitany told of how her former boss had instructed her to deal with Linturi’s regular complaints against the Jubilee administration.

She said that in the first year working for Ruto, the relationship was mainly professional but things changed after the DP failed to convince Linturi to drop an impeachment motion against then Devolution CS Anne Waiguru.

Kitany said DP Ruto was concerned about Linturi’s plan to impeach Waiguru, hence requested for her assistance to persuade the legislator.

The former aide to the DP said she was successful as the motion failed after Linturi failed to show up for the mention of his motion thereby saving Waiguru.

“I, therefore, embarked on that mission as ordered by the DP…When the impeachment motion was first tabled in Parliament, Linturi and I were at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge having a good time. At that time, he had already won my heart,” she told the court.

Kitany said the decision to take the lawmaker to Naivasha was a well-calculated move that was planned by a team from the Deputy Presidents office.

Linturi had been seeking the removal of Waiguru from office for transferring former NYS Director Kiplimo Rugut from the agency.

It is on that night that Maryanne agreed to take the relationship to the next level and introduce Linturi to her family.

Asked whether she can identify her husband, Maryanne pointed at Linturi who was following the proceedings.

Kitany also revealed to the court how Linturi moved into her house in Kileleshwa.

She said that when they were dating, she was living in Kileleshwa while Linturi stayed in a rented four bedroomed house -Bitha homes in Ngong Road.

We came back to Nairobi and slowly by slowly he started coming to Kileleshwa for sleepovers, stay for days and finally he started living with me in Kileleshwa,” she added.

Ms Kitany has been trying to prove her marriage to Linturi after the Meru Senator denied being married to her, describing her as a visitor in his home.

The former Chief of Staff in the DP’s office maintains that they planned, actualised and attended a wedding ceremony at the Senator’s home in Meru.

Kitany said Linturi also carried out an official customary marriage with her, met her family, paid dowry, gifted her parents in accordance with all customary preconditions.

She has also accused the senator of forging marriage and official documents of the property they jointly owned.

Marianne is expected in court to  continue with her testimony today.
