Huduma Kenya Clarifies Process of Correcting Father’s Name on Children’s Birth Certificates

Huduma Kenya has clarified the procedure parents must follow when a child’s birth certificate contains the grandfather’s name instead of the biological father’s name.

Parents seeking to make the correction are required to present the child’s birth certificate to the Civil Registration Services office or visit any Huduma Centre.

The birth certificate will then be reviewed to establish the nature of the error and determine the appropriate amendment procedure and supporting documents required.

According to Huduma Kenya, officials will establish whether the issue involves an incorrect father’s name, inaccurate parental details or a broader problem relating to the registration of the child’s name.

Once the nature of the error has been established, the parent will be guided on the appropriate application and documentation required to make the correction.

Huduma Kenya advised parents to provide a copy of the affected child’s birth certificate so that officials can determine the correct procedure and applicable requirements.

However, the agency stressed that parental details on a birth certificate cannot simply be changed at will.

Any amendment must be supported by sufficient evidence demonstrating that an error was made during the original registration. The process is subject to the legal requirements and supporting documentation prescribed by the Civil Registration Services.

The clarification is important for parents whose children were registered using incorrect family details, as the correction process depends on the specific circumstances reflected on each birth certificate.
