James Ongwae Quits ODM

Former Kisii governor James Ongwae has broken ties with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

In a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, Mr Ongwae attributed the defection to ill-treatment against him together with his supporters during the General Election period and they have decided to join other leaders.

Joining Ongwae in the defection was the ODM deputy chairperson Janet Ongera.

“We as members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have today decided conscientiously to resign from the ODM party with immediate effect,” read part of the statement.

“We have today arrived at this decision having carefully taken stock of the activities preceding the last General Election and more so the ill manner in which the party treated us and our supporters through political patronage by individuals who never had the interest of our community at heart

“We will soon issue a press statement on our next political journey,” he added saying they will announce their next move soon.

The former Kisii leader further thanked ODM for allowing him to serve as a member of the party in his capacity, opining that leaders should join hands with ones with progressive minds.

“It has been an honour serving in ODM we regret nothing but we move to the next phase with a clear mind on how better as a country we can manage our political affairs before and after elections.”

The former governor was a key ally in the Raila Odinga-led party.

However, he changed his tune after the August 9 polls and joined President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp.
