It appears that the murder case of Jane Muthoni, who has popularly come to be known as the killer head-teacher after being convicted of killing her husband Solomon Mwangi, keeps on taking new twists and turns, even on the last day of hearing. Everybody was eagerly awaiting for Jane Muthoni’s daughter to make a submission, considering her unique position; the accused is her mother, while the victim was her father.
Jane Muthoni, who was recently found guilty of killing her husband Solomon Mwangi, listened keenly as her case came to an end. Jane Muthoni’s daughter by the name June Mbuthi issued a statement that caught everybody off guard in the Court’s virtual hearings.
Parties were giving their final submissions to the Judge before sentencing which is scheduled for June 3rd. The prosecution called upon Judge Joel Ngugi to issue the death penalty, considering the severity of the crime she was convicted of.
Jane’s co-accused, Issac Ng’ang’a, on the other hand, called upon the Judge to consider the time he had already spent in remand when he will be making a ruling.
Jane Muthoni, on her part, said that she is the sole breadwinner to her four children, and giving her a heavy sentence would have an impact on the kids who are fully and wholly dependent on her. She maintained her ”Not Guilty” stance up to the last minute, saying that what is happening to her is a travesty since she was facing the hangman’s noose, while those responsible remain free. Jane Muthoni has always maintained that her husband died as a result of an execution ordered by his workmates due to rivalry at work.
When June Mbuthi took the stand, she started weeping as she gave a heartfelt plea, asking the judge to show mercy to her father’s killer. In a submission that felt touching while at the same time insensitive towards her dead father, June defended the woman who killed her father, saying that she and her three siblings depended fully on their mother and needed her to be by their side.
