Justice Daniel Kiio Musinga has been elected President of the Court of Appeal.
He is to replace Justice William Ouko who was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta as Supreme Court Judge following his nomination by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
The appointment was yesterday communicated by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer Beatrice Saki Muli to the Chief Justice.
Justice Musinga was appointed as a High Court judge in 2003 and has served in Nakuru and Kisii.
In January, Musinga was appointed the chairman of the Judiciary Committee on Elections (JCE), took over from High Court judge Msagha Mbogholi.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice Martha Koome officially assumed office yesterday at the Supreme Court building.
Receiving instruments of power from Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mbete Mwilu, Koome said she is delighted to take over the leadership of the judiciary at a time when the momentum for transformation is on an upward trajectory.
“We will continue that trajectory and ensure that at any given time, no case should be in the justice system for longer than three (3) years. This is a target that is possible to achieve if we all embraced a case management system and the multi-door approaches that are now available to us such as the court users committees, court annexed mediation, small claims court and alternative justice systems.” She noted.
