Former Kibwezi Member of Parliament Richard Kalembe Ndile is to be laid to rest later today Friday June 11, 2021, at his Kibwezi West’s Mbui Nzaui rural home.
Friends, family and former colleagues have reportedly thronged the late former legislator’s home ahead of his interment, with the cortege already having left Lee funeral home for Ukambani.
Ahead of his planned burial the family have once more table yet another request to the mourners after their recent one refusing the former legislator’s casket to be wrapped in party flag.
According to Kalembe’s family, because of the current COVID-19 situation and in strict adherence to the Ministry of Health’s laid down protocols, only a small number of people -not more than 200- will be permitted to attend the ceremony.
Among the top politicians and leaders set to attend the firebrand politician’s burial ceremony is President Uhuru Kenyatta and others.
In his moving eulogy, the head of state described Ndile as a a clever, determined, and practical politician who rose through the ranks by sheer hard work.
Kalembe passed away late last month on Sunday 30 May, 2021 at the Nairobi hospital after a long and unsuccessful battle with undisclosed ailment.
Until his death Ndile was serving as a director of the Tanathi water works, and has has been of the camera’s since unsuccessfully trying his luck in the Mavoko Parliamentary seat.
In his recent interview, Kalembe stated that he would once again run for the Mavoko seat in the 2022 general elections.
“If this happens, I’ll run for the Mavoko seat again; the last time I ran with Jubilee, I received 22,000 votes; I’ll run again; if I had the papers, I’d run for Governor because I know I can work harder than most governors.” he stated during an interview with KTN last year.
In June 2019, the former lawmaker was at loggerheads with Machakos governor Alfred Mutua who he accused of threatening his life, and misusing County resources to harass him.
He would later record a statement at the Nairobi’s parliament building police station about the same alleging that unknown people accosted him.
“A man in a white pick-up vehicle with county government number plates approached me and told me to move from Mlolongo or else they will break my other leg,” said Ndile, who previously suffered a broken leg in an accident two years ago.
