Former Kieni Member of Parliament, Kanini Kenga, submitted his bid for the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) on Wednesday, November 2.
In a communique, the former lawmaker described his move as a well-thought-through decision, expressing confidence that he would succeed in his quest.
“After intense consultations and deep soul searching, I have decided to offer myself for Nomination through Jubilee/Azimio Party for the EALA MP position.
“I believe I have the requisite qualifications and experience to represent our great Nation in the East Africa Legislative. Assembly,” he stated.
His decision is expected to intensify the tussle within the Azimio Coalition after members differed on who should be nominated for various positions within the National Assembly and the EALA a few days ago.
Parliament invited Kenyans to apply for nomination and election to EALA on Wednesday, October 26, amidst rumours that the seats would eventually go to August 9 poll losers.
Houses of each East Africa Community (EAC) member state were required to elect nine members as representatives to the Arusha-based assembly.
Elections should factor in the party representation in the Parliaments and other factors, including gender and special interest.
The notice inviting applicants for the EALA slots by Parliament, signed by the clerk Serah Kioko, revealed that the positions would fall vacant on December 17.
Narok senator, Ledama Ole Kina, had proposed Kanini Kega for the slot.
