The KEMSA Scandal where money mean to fight the Covid-19 virus was misused and misappropriated has netted those who thought to be clean and other who are known thieves.
First exposed by a local blog Kenyan Digest, the scandal went viral and caught the attention of many Kenyans when it aired on NTV as #Covid19Millionaires.
Since then, politicians from the political divide have been throwing jabs at each other.
It is Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja who a few months ago was caught in a partying scandal, breaking the curfew orders and was reprimanded by system.
Sakaja’s partying in total disregard of the Covid-19 containment measures must have stemmed from the fact that he had bagged a billion-shilling (Sh1.1 billion – Megascope) contract.
Shop ‘N’ Buy, a firm associated with Sakaja was paid Sh970 million under the KEMSA Emergency Procurement for Covid-19 programme for undisclosed items/services.
It is so telling how Sakaja has been silent in condemning the KEMSA heist.
Nairobi Politicians
The Youth and Gender Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Rachel Shebesh, according to sources, owns a firm known as Tronz Ventures Limited, Panim Holdings and Escobar Kenya Limited. The former Nairobi Women Representative smiled to the bank with a Sh66 million contract.
Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, though Everywhere Distributors Limited, was paid Sh114 million.
Murang’a Women rep who is also the chairperson of the Parliamentary Health Committee Hon Sabina Chege received Sh140 million through a company called Meraky Health Care.
Senate speaker Ken Lusaka fronted a Somali businessman through a company called Briema Grains Stores. He shared the loot of Sh167 million.
A board director at KEMSA known as Joel Gisuka is said to have pocketed a commission of 10 per cent from acting as a front man to the Villa Surgical & Equipment Limited which was paid Sh142 million.
Kenyans need to know their real enemies, because as lockdown and curfew were imposed, some people got very rich. As curfew and lockdown and cessation of movement were imposed, some politicians got very rich. It is just the start of the revelations and it is already clear to see that all these parastatals are surrounded by politicians who mercilessly loot and eat with their girlfriends. In other countries, rich people are those who have invented things and own industries which employ people especially the youth, but in Kenya it is the opposite. Politicians are the ones who are rich in Kenya because they easily loot from the public and go scot-free.
