Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has earned KSh440.34 million from drilling geothermal wells in Ethiopia.
The company bagged the contract in 2019 to facilitate commercial consultancy and drilling services with Tulu Moye Geothermal Operations. The company in 2019 won the Sh5.2 billion tender to drill geothermal wells in Ethiopia, marking the second such win in the landlocked country.
The company had also, in February 2019, won part of a KSh7.6 billion contract to supply geothermal drilling services to the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP).
According to the firm’s managing director, Rebecca Miano, the firm also plans to start drilling services for the Aluto-Langano project — also in Ethiopia.
In February this year, KenGen Plc signed a KSh709 million contract to drill three geothermal wells in Djibouti. The company signed the contract with the Office Djiboutien De Development De lenergie Geothermique (Djiboutian Office of Geothermal Energy Development) (ODDEG).
