Kenya’s Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife Services launched a new cashless payments system for tourists dubbed ‘Tourist Tap.

During the launch, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Miano said the mobile application would support Kenya’s tourism industry, which contributed KSh500 billion (R63 billion) in revenue in 2025 and sustains more than 1,6 million jobs.
The cashless payment system removes traditional transaction barriers, allowing travellers to pay via their mobile phones from arrival at the airport through to visits to local markets, reducing reliance on cash.
Miano said the platform would empower local communities and businesses by integrating them into a more formalised economic system.
