Kenyanbulletin has learnt that the Kenyan government is allegedly recalling high level retired army officers as rumours of an imminent national lockdown to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) which has so far claimed 4 lives in the country spreads.
This move would be in an effort to make sure Kenyans obey the directive, something that is proving very hard for the government to implement given many Kenyans live on a day to day, hand to mouth basis.
At the moment the Kenyan government has issued a national dusk to dawn curfew that is expected to last 30 days. “This order shall apply during the hours between seven o’clock in the evening and 5 o’clock in the morning with effect from 27 March 2020, and shall remain in effect for a period of thirty days thereof,” the gazette notice announcing the curfew read.
Police have had to enforce brutality in the curfew, just recently residents of Langas estate in Eldoret defied the dusk to dawn curfew order arguing they’d starve and wanted more time to fend for themselves and their families.
A lot of Kenyans have asked for the national lockdown arguing the curfew is not enough. “We are asking the Government to lift the night curfew and instead implement a lockdown that we believe will be more effective in curbing the spread of coronavirus,” a statement by Atheists in Kenya Society reads.
Nyali MP Mohamed Ali (Jicho Pevu), a close confidant of the DP Ruto has also called for a lockdown.
