The General Manager Finance at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), has been arrested in Mombasa today over claims of irregular payments amounting to Ksh.214,548, 340.80.
Investigations show that the KPA boss apparently used his office to confer the funds to Nyali Capital Limited.
“Indeed, Patrick Wambugu Nyoike facilitated Nyali Capital Limited’s microfinance business to finance the KPA suppliers, Local Purchase Order (LPOs) and Local Service Orders (LSOs) and thereafter used the KPA system to have the principal and the interest from the said suppliers remitted to Nyali Capital Limited’s account by the KPA,” A statement from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions states.
A spot check on who the directors of the said Nyali Capital Limited show that they are the suspect’s Alfred Hinga Nyoike and one Peter Ndichu Kinyanjui hile the company’s General Manager is Mr. Nyoike’s wife Jacinta Wanjiku Wambugu.
“This clearly demonstrates a conflict of interest on the part of Patrick Wambugu Nyoike, the General Manager Finance at KPA,” the ODPP’s states.
The suspects will face charges of abuse of office; conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, failure to disclose a private interest to his principal, and dealing with suspect property.
