KQ to Suspend UK Flights Indefinitely After April 9

KQ will suspend its flights between Kenya and the UK from 9 April 2021 until further notice. The move is in line with the government’s directive to suspend flights from the UK, effective midnight 9 April 2021.

“Kenya Airways PLC announces the suspension of passenger flights between Kenya and the United Kingdom effective 9 April 2021 at 00:00 HRS GMT until further notice,” said the airline in a statement update. “We sincerely apologies to all our customers for the inconvenience.”

KQ earlier suspended their domestic flights between Nairobi and Mombasa and Nairobi and Kisumu indefinitely following the presidential measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The suspension of domestic flights and international flights to the UK serve yet another blow to the airline, which reported a comprehensive loss of Ksh 46.2 billion for the year ended December 2020 due to the dwindling number of passengers. Nevertheless, CEO Allan Kilavuka says KQ is doubling down on its cargo to make up for losses in its passenger business, which are not expected to recover until 2024.
