📲 Step 1: Download the Kwetu eSIM App
Getting started is simple.

After downloading the app, create an account using your email address, Google Account, Apple Account on iOS, or Yahoo Account.
Once that’s done, you’re ready to get connected. ✈️
🌍 Step 2: Choose Your Destination and Buy an eSIM
Whether you’re travelling to South Africa, Tanzania, France or another destination, finding the right bundle is straightforward.
1. Search for your destination
Enter the country you’re travelling to, such as South Africa.
You can also search by city or location. For example, searching for Cape Town and Kwetu eSIM will display the available options for South Africa.
2. Choose your bundle
Browse the available packages and select the one that best suits your travel needs.
Kwetu eSIM offers different types of bundles, including:
- Fixed-data bundles — such as 5GB packages, which remain available until the purchased data is used up.
- Unlimited bundles — allow continued usage but may be subject to a Fair Usage Policy and speed throttling.
For example, with a 3GB/day Unlimited bundle, you can use up to 3GB at full speed each day. After reaching that limit, your speed may be reduced to 2Mbps, with the allowance resetting the following day.
💡 Travel tip: If you mainly use WhatsApp, Google Maps, email and social media, a smaller data bundle may be enough. If you plan to stream, upload lots of videos or work remotely, consider a larger or Unlimited bundle.
3. Check the bundle details
Once you find a package you like, tap on it to view important information such as:
- 📶 Available network
- ⚡ Connection speeds
- 📊 Data allowance
- 📜 Fair Usage Policy for Unlimited bundles
- 💰 Price
Always review these details before making your purchase so you know exactly what the bundle includes.
4. Pay and you’re ready to go
Tap Pay at the bottom of the screen and select your preferred payment method.
Kwetu eSIM currently supports card and M-Pesa payments, with additional payment options expected in the future.
You can also gift an eSIM to someone else, making it a convenient option if you’re helping a friend, family member or travel companion stay connected.
Once payment is successfully completed, the eSIM will be assigned to the relevant account.
Important: Purchasing an eSIM does not automatically install it on your phone. Installation must be completed separately.
📡 Step 3: Install Your eSIM
Purchased your bundle? Now it’s time to install your eSIM.
- Open My eSIMs in the Kwetu eSIM app.
- You’ll see your purchased eSIMs and their current statuses.
- Select the eSIM you want to install.
- Review the eSIM details and tap Install eSIM.
- Kwetu eSIM will guide you through the appropriate installation process for your device.
- Follow the instructions displayed on your screen.
Once installation is complete, your eSIM will be ready to connect when your trip begins. 🌍📶
🎨 Step 4: Understand Your eSIM Status
Not sure whether your eSIM is ready, active or has expired? Kwetu eSIM uses different colours to make your eSIM status easy to understand.
🟡 Yellow — Ready to Install
Your eSIM has been purchased but has not yet been installed.
🟢 Green — Installed & Active
Your eSIM has been installed and is currently active.
🔴 Red — Almost Ending or Ended
Your eSIM is approaching the end of its validity period or has already expired. Depending on its status, you may have the option to top it up.
