M-Pesa fraudsters arrested with over 600 sim cards in Machakos

DCI detectives have arrested two M-pesa fraudsters who have been conning the residents of Machakos. The detectives also recovered more than 600 SIM cards, 96 Identification cards bearing different names and six mobile phones.

KCB Inua Jamii Cash Transfer Cards, 16 Bank Agent Transaction Registers, two gambling machines, and a laptop among other electronic equipment were also confiscated during the raid.

Kevin Sagini Oroko, 23,  and Dominic Otiso Nyabuto, 27,  were apprehended from their hideout at Miwani Estate within Machakos town.

They two are now in police custody awaiting arraignment in court.

This comes barely two days after detectives arrested one police officer Boniface Nthenge, stationed at Kitengela police station and one Lucy Syombua who were using stolen ID cards to acquire loans fraudulently.

DCI said the two are members of a syndicate that fraudulently acquired loans and other benefits from M-pesa platform.

“Hundreds of fraudulently registered sim cards and electronic equipment believed to be used for hacking purposes have been recovered from the lady’s house in Umoja- Nairobi,” DCI Director George Kinoti said.
