This week an angry John Mbadi found himself even more angry after a remark with which he intended to annoy Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata instead ended up causing ripples of laughter and amusement.

An incensed Mbadi, who also happens to be the Orange Democratic Movement party Chairman, ran out of patience while trying to explain to Senator Kang’ata the doctrine of the superiority of the will of the people over any other consideration.

At the heart of the matter was the issue of the 70 proposed constituencies that are contained in the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020.

Kang’ata was fighting off arguments that, as a matter of fact, the Bill actually was a big help to Central region because without it, the area stood to lose constituencies which failed to meet the legal threshold required for each and every constituency.

The legislators were on KTN’s political show Crossfire which was hosted by Sophia Wanuna. Alongside Senator Kang’ata and Hon. Mbadi was Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja.

Demanding for an increase in the number of proposed constituencies from 70 to 79, Kang’ata complained that Kieni deserved to be split into two more constituencies, yet it hadn’t.

He said the same for Kinangop. He then concluded by asserting that the additional units were being added in an unconstitutional manner since the parameters that should have been considered in the creation of the new units were questionable.

This was where John Mbadi shot at him saying that it was an absolute waste of money for the government to be spending on Kang’ata in terms of a salary. He said that it would be more economically sound for the government to terminate his salary and instead use the money to buy Kenyans vaccines.

He then went ahead to explain that the will of the people supersedes anything, and once the people decide something in a poll, nothing that reverse this.
