Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has reacted to reports that he is being probed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over illicitly acquired wealth.
On Tuesday, EACC Chairman Eliud Wabukala said Sonko and three others are under investigation over unexplained wealth amounting to Sh11.5 billion.
The others are Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal and former Governors Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) and Evans Kidero (Nairobi).
In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Sonko rubbished the alleged probe, stating that he started owning and selling property while still in school.
“Being silent is not being foolish kwani owning property in this country is a problem? I started owning, buying and selling property when I was in school and before I became the Governor,” he wrote.
He further accused EACC of being biased, questioning why the agency has not taken any action against its former top official, who was implicated in the COVID billionaires scandal.
“Kwani what have you done to the former EACC boss who was involved in the Kemsa Covid Billionaires scandal. What have you done to one of your current bosses who was involved in the grabbing of a County school playground in South C?” Sonko posed.
He added: “What have you done with your former and current bosses who were involved in the fraudulent sale of Integrity Centre at an exaggerated price at the expense of taxpayers?”
