Homabay County Women Representative Gladys Wanga has sparked mixed reactions with her controversial remarks accusing Deputy President William Ruto among promoters of the increased Covid-19 cases in Kisumu county issuing.

Speaking during an interview at Citizen TV, Wanga alleged that during the Madaraka day celebrations in Kisumu the Deputy President did not adhere to the set measures to curb the spread of covid-19 even after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s warning to leaders to avoid political gatherings.

Wanga further illustrated that immediately the Madaraka day celebrations were concluded, President Uhuru with other executive guests had to leave to avoid crowds, but DP Ruto defied his boss’s directive to show his might.

Madam Wanga also alleged that the second in command incited the masses after he came out on the roof of his vehicle to wave to the Kisumu residents hence a promoter of the increased cases of Covid-19 in Kisumu County.

“President tried not to greet the gathering outside the stadium in Kisumu but Deputy President went for a few Bonga points & photo op. Raila Odinga was forced to come out as he was leaving after DP. Political parties should be responsible, we can do zoom,” Wanga alleged.

Wanga’s contentious remarks came after covid-19 cases in Kisumu County have been reported to have drastically increased taking the total numbers of infections in the county to 5,739.
