Moses Wetangula asks Western leaders to fully back BBI for the sake of Western economic empowerment

Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula has asked leaders from the Western region to fully back the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report for the sake of their economic empowerment.

Speaking to the journalists in Bungoma Town on Saturday after a meeting with his party members, Wetangula said that the BBI implementation marks the beginning of a new era.

He argued that the region will only be part of the government if the leaders rally behind the report.

The Bungoma Senator also reminded politicians to educate the masses on the report.

He also expressed support for a change of the leadership structure from a pure presidential to a parliamentary system where the pot of Prime Minister will be introduced.

“For us to be able to negotiate anything meaningful for our region, we must be united and move as a team. We engage meaningfully knowing with the BBI there is going to be constitutional change,” said Wetangula, in a video shared on Twitter.

“The people of Bungoma and all members of our party have embraced this report. We want to see the country moving to a parliamentary system. We want to see the creation of the position of the Prime Minister, Deputies and above all, we want to see a constitution that holds the country together, a constitution that will never ever again in the history of this nation give or create a situation where one or two communities can load over others and run away with the country,” he added.

The remarks came at a time when leaders from different parts of the nation were converging in Kitui for the third BBI rally.

Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has also thrown weighed behind the report.
