An angry mob lynched a middle-aged man who is believed to have killed his girlfriend on Wednesday morning November 9, 2022, in Nyaga village, Gatanga, Murang’a county.
Kamau Ngugi, aged 30, is said to have killed Mary Mwihaki, 39, before beheading her in what is believed to have been a love tussle.
Kamau is said to be dating Mwihaki, a mother of three, for quite some time but he suspected her of having an affair with another man.
According to witnesses, Kamau is said to have accosted Mwihaki while milking at her employer’s farm and attacked her with a panga.
“We heard Mwihaki raise alarm and dashed to the scene only to find she had been beheaded,” one of the witnesses said.
The residents managed to corner the suspect and stoned him to death.
Vinkie Nkatha, a friend of Mwihaki, said that the deceased had disclosed to her that she was feeling unsafe with Kamau and she was fearing for her life.
“On Sunday, she told me the man had called her requesting that they meet and talk which she agreed to,” she said.
“She told me they have talked out their differences and he had asked to meet her the following day,” Nkatha added.
Nkatha further said that Kamau called Mwihaki on Tuesday to ask her if she would agree to meet him but she felt scared.
“She was shaking, she told me she feared something bad might happen and I told her not to go see him,” Nkatha said.
Fredrick Gatua, a church leader, condemned the act saying people should embrace dialogue instead of killing each other.
