A Kenyan woman has been charged in court for hiring hitmen to kidnap, extort and kill the daughter of her ex-husband.
Peris Wairimu allegedly approached a man looking to hire mercenaries who would kidnap her former husband Benson Irungu’s daughter, extort and then eliminate her.
The man is said to have instead ratted her out to Mr. Irungu who in turn rushed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations office in Shauri Moyo and reported the crime.
In a well planned set up, Officers from DCI Shauri Moyo posed as hitmen and told Wairimu they could do the job.
Wairimu convinced the officers posing as hitmen that since she was not in a position to pay a down payment, the first installment of the ransom would go to them.
The accused then showed the officers the targets photos, place of work and residence.
The officers stage-managed the kidnapping and kept the daughter in a safe room under the care of her father with her phone switched off, Wairimu bought the play.
The officers then laid a trap on March 12 and arrested Wairimu as soon as she accepted Sh100,000 ransom money.
DCI officer Raphael Rhioba said that during all the meetings with the accused, all the conversation was recorded.
