Mzee Atwoli at it again, says Uhuru free to vie in 2022 if BBI passes

Mzee Atwoli at it again, says Uhuru free to vie in 2022 if BBI passes

The Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli has endorsed President Uhuru Kenyatta for 2022 presidential election.

Atwoli reiterated his earlier position on Uhuru’s possible candidature saying the president was still young to retire thus free to run for another term.

Speaking in Kisumu on Friday, November 27, the trade unionist stated that nothing would stop Uhuru from seeking another term once the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is passed.

“Unless the president feels he has done enough, he is tired and wants to go home and rest, nothing stops him from vying again in 2022 after passing these amendments,” he said.

While rallying workers across the country not be dissuaded into rejecting the BBI report, he reminded them the document had amendments which will seek to address come of their challenges.

“Every time after election we have skirmishes and the people who are affected the most are workers, women and children.

“Therefore, we must support this document which seeks to put an end to this menace,” he said.

At the same time, the unionist told off those opposing the constitutional amendment process to proceed with no campaign and wait at the ballot during the referendum.

“If you are opposed to the document then go ahead and spearhead a no campaign we face each other and let Kenyans decide because we are a democratic country,” he added.

Atwoli was peaking when he met the National Social Security Fund and the Kenya Plantation and Agricultural Workers Union members at Tom Mboya Labour Training College.
