Police are pursuing armed robbers who killed two traders at the busy Adams Market, in Woodley, Nairobi county.
As part of the ongoing investigation, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have requested members of the public to help in identifying one man believed to be part of the dangerous group of thugs terrorizing shop M-Pesa shop agents in Nairobi.
Through a social media post published on Thursday, 16 June, the George Kinoti-led agency leaked a video that captures the face of the male suspect during one of his previous crime escapades within the city.
“He is one of the thugs targeting M-Pesa shops in Nairobi and its environs.
The thug is part of a wider armed and dangerous gang that staged an attack at M-Pesa shops located at Adams market,” the DCI wrote.
During the incident that took place on Saturday, June 11, store merchants Sophia Gathoni and Paul Githingi were shot dead by the miscreants who were targeting M-Pesa shops.
From a chilling CCTV footage that is currently doing rounds on social media, Gathoni was preparing to close her shop at around 7 pm when a man stepped in, demanding to buy cigarettes.
Little did she know that the man was on a different mission.
The man accosts Gathoni when she gets into her shop and points a pistol before shooting.
His colleague tries to force his way in, but Gathoni fights him off.
In the process, the armed robber shoots her again, and she falls down painfully wailing.
Curious traders rush to her shop to rescue her.
A few meters from Gathoni’s shop, the robbers allegedly shot dead another trader, Paul Githinji, who was responding to the distress call before they disappeared.
