Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has warned that the society will keenly follow the recruitment process of the four Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.
The LSK Boss has asked the advocates who might have been shortlisted among the 36 candidates to consider withdrawing from the interviews if their professional integrity is questionable.
“660 Kenyans applied to fill the vacancies of four commissioners of IEBC. 36 have been shortlisted for an interview. The focus will be on the Advocates in the shortlist. If you have a dent, have stolen from members or mismanaged funds, withdraw. A memorandum is loading,” Havi stated.
Some of the top names who have been shortlisted for the interview include; Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko’s sister, Naisiae Tobiko, Kenya’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Lucy Jebet Chelimo, and Kenya’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Koki Muli.
Others shortlisted candidates included; Salim Ndemo (former commissioner at the Public Service), Florence Jaoko and Kagwiria Mbogori (ex-Kenya National Commission on Human Rights chairpersons) and former Gwasi lawmaker Felix Nyauchi.
Reports have indicated that the shortlisted applicants would be required to undertake a psychometric test on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi County.
“All shortlisted applicants are required to
undertake a psychometric test on Wednesday, June, 30, at 11.00 am at the
Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi. Applicants are required to
arrive at the venue by 10.30 am,” the advert read.
The IEBC Commissioners’ position felt vacant following the resignation of Paul Kurgat, Margaret Mwachanya and Connie Maina on April 16, 2018 citing a lack of confidence in the leadership of its chairperson, Wafula Chebukati, while commissioner Roselyne Akombe, left the commission days ahead of the repeat of the 2017 presidential election.
