President William Ruto remains the most popular candidate for the 2027 presidential contest, a new survey by TIFA Research shows, but his lead highlights the increased political rivalry.
The poll, published on May 14, shows Ruto at 24% if elections were held today. He is followed by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at 19% and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who is third with 14%.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna got 10% while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua got 9%.
TIFA was conducted May 2 through May 11, 2023, and interviewed 2,013 respondents in all 47 counties. The research group said Ruto was ahead in the pack but still lacked majority support, as many voters backed other candidates or were undecided.
The survey also ranks Deputy President Kithure Kindiki as the most preferred running mate for Ruto in 2027 with 59%.
Political analysts say the results show Ruto remains the strongest single candidate for now, but the opposition could be a serious contender if it unites behind one candidate.
The poll comes amid a surge in political activity across Kenya as leaders begin to position themselves ahead of the next general election. The findings are likely to affect political strategies in the months ahead.
