Orange Democratic movements (ODM) party has accused the ruling party of using State Mercenaries to to campaign for its candidate for the forthcoming Bonchari by-election.
The ODM party has claimed that the Jubilee party is using some government officials in the Ministry of Interior to campaign for their candidates.
In a letter written by ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati, the Orange part complained about alleged misuse of state agencies to influence the fourth coming by-election.
“We wish to register our complaints with the
commission following a series of well-calculated and systemic activities by a
section of the state’s administrative and security agencies whose overall
import is to adversely influence a free, fair and democratic electoral
process,” the letter read in part.
The party claims that the government officials are now engaged in active campaigns which should not be the case.
According to Standard, the ODM Executive Director
Oduor Ong’wen claimed that the party had been a victim of unfair practices
during elections even though it has always followed the elections regulations
to the latter.
He urged IEBC to intervene and ensure a fair
playground for all candidates ahead of the by-election slated for May 18 to
replace the late MP John Oroo.
Ong’wen further claimed that local administrators
have overtly turned campaign agents of the Jubilee candidate Zebedeo Opore.
