ODM: Raila won’t campaign in Kisii over the weekend

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party has refuted media reports that its leader Raila Odinga is scheduled to hold rallies in Kisii County over the weekend.

Some media outlets had reported over that Raila will be headed to the region this coming weekend to prepare the ground for BBI as well as consolidate his support ahead of 2022 polls.

The reports came days after Deputy President William Ruto, who is eyeing the top seat, visited the region as he continues to make inroads into regions perceived as Raila’s stronghold.

In a statement on Monday, the vocal ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna said the party has no such arrangements.

“Hon. Odinga’s meetings/events are announced to the public through the media by the party’s communications team and not through speculation and sensationalism.” Sifuna said.

ODM leaders campaigned at the Coastal region over the weekend just weeks after the Deputy President William Ruto campaigned in the region before going to Kisii where he met Boda Boda saccos and boosted small scale traders.

Ruto has made it clear that he will be making a serious stab at the presidency in 2022 amid claims that the ‘the system’ or deep state will stop his candidature.

Raila who has made four unsuccessful attempts at the country’s top seat was drumming support for yet to be released BBI report hinted at a possible run in the 2022 General Elections.

“Baba hajachoka, ako tayari, je mko tayari? Kwa hivo mwachane na wale wezi ambao wanahujumu mali ya wananchi…wakishaiba, wanaingia kanisani eti anatoa kwa Mungu…eti yeye ni mkarimu…anarudi nayo pande hii ingine eti anatoa mchango ya wheelbarrow,” Raila said.

The ODM leader who appears to be holding campaigns in places the DP has visited was accompanied by Mombasa  Governor Ali Hassan Joho who said they will do anything to ensure Ruto does not ascend to power.
