On and off Tanga Tanga member governor Tunai confuses observers even more with latest move – Kenyan_Report

In the last couple of months, it has been almost impossible to mark where exactly the Narok County governor Samuel Ole Tunai stands in the current political landscape. Each story about him having left the DP’s Tanga Tanga camp is always balanced out soon after with another story of him reiterating his support for the DP.

It definitely hasn’t been lost on observers that the main reason for his flip-flopping is the delicate ethnic balance within Narok County, and how it can be easily used against him.

Samuel Ole Tunai became governor by marshalling a portion of his own Maasai vote-block and combining it with the sizable and important vote of the Kipsigis within the county.

For days now, the governor has been hosting the DP together with a group of 40 MPs from the Mount Kenya region. The retreat is the latest in a series of efforts by the Deputy President to cement his support in the Mount Kenya region. It is happening at the Maasai Mara reserve.

The Maasai Mara reserve is run, managed and owned by the county government of Narok.

This present show of camaraderie between the governor and the DP comes after reports of a fallout between the two in March.

It was reported that Tunai had exited the Tanga Tanga wing after Ruto endorsed Patrick ole Ntutu to fly the hustler’s flag in 2022 gubernatorial race. Ntutu who is currently serving as the chief administrative secretary in the ministry of Labour does not see-eye- to eye with the governor.

Tunai is serving his final term which he defended on a Jubilee ticket in the 2017 elections after defeating the same Ntutu who vied on Chama Cha Mashinani and got some 93,628 votes.

The governor was DP Ruto’s point man in the region but began skipping his events including a fundraiser in aid of Maranatha Church at Enoosaen Girls School in Kilgoris constituency where Ruto was the chief guest.
