Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Devolution Secretary Eugene Wamalwa will today meet elders in Kakamega town, barely week after police violently broke up two meetings by Tanga Tanga politicians allied to the DP William Ruto.
The meeting will is a continuation of the two previous meetings held with elders from Bungoma, TransNzoia, Busia and Vihiga counties.
Kakamega county executive for Sports and Social Services Robert Makhanu who chairs the organising committee said the two leaders together with other elected leaders will be meeting elders from Kakamega county at Masinde Muliro University.
“The meeting will be usedb to communicate the government’s development agenda for the region” Makhanu said.
The meeting comes a week after police used teargas to disperse groups of Western MPs in Bungoma and Kakamega counties for violating the Covid-19 requirements on social distancing.
The meeting in Bungoma county by Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang’ula and other leaders were cut shortnon grounds that they violated Covid-19 social distancing rule.
The following day, the police would break up another meeting by six MPs allied to DP Ruto at Hon. Malulu Injendi’s home in Malava.
Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi urged the government to implemet the law on Covid-19 fairly.
“You cannot have a law that restrains some people under the Covid-19 crisis and allows another segment to break the law wantonly.” Mudavadi said.
The meeting by Oparanya and Eugene is a ploy by those eying the votes in the western bloc to undermine Mudavadi and Wetang’ula as 2022 politics take shape.
