Siaya Senator James Orengo and Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo were on Friday, April 30, 2021 forced to flee using a chopper after chaos erupted in a function that was held in Siaya County.
The leaders were attending the inauguration ceremony of the area Assistant Chief Risper Akoth where a group of angry youths disrupted the function over the order of speakers.
Other leaders who were also caught up in the mess include; MPs Sam Atandi (Alego Usonga) and Aduma Owuor (Nyakach).
Rarieda lawmaker claimed that the youths were hired by a political aspirant in the area to disrupt the function.
He stated that they were forced to run for their life after the chaos erupted and managed to escape un hurt.
“When the chaos erupted we were forced to flee for safety as the ‘hired goons’ were stoning the chopper. We went to the chopper and managed to leave without any injuries,” Otiende stated.
Otiende noted that the youth caused chaos after his Alego Usonga Counterpart Atandi refused to allow an aspirant for MP in the area to address the crowd and invited Orengo to give the closing remarks in the event.
Police were forced to fire in the air to disperse the youths thereby disrupting the leader’s speeches.
The leaders fled into the awaiting chopper as the youth threw stones and chairs at them.

Otiende Amollo accused an aspirant for the Alego Usonga Constituency of causing the chaos and called on the police to investigate the matter.
“He (referring to the local politician) tried to cause chaos, we did not want to be part of it, we went to the chopper and left,”Otiende stated.
Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany condemned the incidence terming it as backward behaviour.
“This is very backward behavior by these goons, shame on whoever hired them, shame on all that endangered their lives and that of others,” Kositany stated.
