Youth leaders in Siaya County took a major step today to address the economic hardships facing the younger generation by proposing a series of initiatives aimed at improving job opportunities and access to education. On March 11, 2026, Ouma Onyango and Duncan Oluoch led a consultative mission to the executive office.
This delegation included representatives from every subcounty. Consequently, they presented a formal roadmap aimed at fixing the severe shortage of jobs. A vision to restore hope drove the mission. Furthermore, it seeks to provide better alternatives to social vices that arise from poverty, such as crime and substance abuse, by creating job opportunities and promoting education and skill development.
A call for merit and fair professional rewards
The primary goal of the group was to demand a transparent hiring system. During the session, Ouma Onyango emphasized that merit must come first. He advocated for equitable job rewards for all. Consequently, every young person in Siaya should have an equal chance to serve based on their skills.
To prove their readiness, the youth leaders took a proactive step. They presented their academic credentials to the executive for vetting. This move proves that Siaya has many qualified professionals ready to work.
Professional reception at the executive wing
The executive wing received the delegation with professional courtesy upon their arrival. Dominic Juma coordinated the reception and ensured a smooth entry for the youth representatives. Afterward, the group held a detailed consultative session with Jaramogi Walter Okelo, the Chief Officer for Governance, Administration, and ICT.
Representing the Governor, Mr. Okelo listened keenly as the leaders presented their grievances. He engaged the delegation in the technicalities of administrative policy within the county.
Furthermore, he assured the group that their concerns would receive the necessary attention. This productive dialogue marks a positive step toward building trust between the county leadership and the youth.

Proposing economic empowerment and business support
Beyond direct jobs, the leaders emphasized the necessity of business support frameworks. Duncan Oluoch noted that supporting youth enterprises is the most sustainable path forward.
This approach helps young people move from dependency to being economic contributors. Meanwhile, the delegation asked the Governor to prioritize these programs immediately. Investing in mentorship and financial aid can transform thousands of lives by providing the necessary support and resources for young people to gain skills, secure employment, and achieve financial independence.
Therefore, these structures are essential for those who currently feel ignored by the county, as they provide necessary support and resources that can help them access opportunities and improve their circumstances.
Demands for a comprehensive job register audit
Finally, the meeting ended with a call for an immediate audit of the County job register. This request follows the recent suspension of various county staff members. These suspensions have raised public concern about irregular hiring.
Consequently, the youth leaders believe a transparent audit will reveal hidden vacancies. They insisted that all future placements must follow strict guidelines to ensure fairness and transparency in the hiring process, addressing the public’s concerns about irregularities.
As taxpayers and key stakeholders, the delegation led by Ouma Onyango and Duncan Oluoch will continue their search for justice. They remain steadfast in seeking fair representation for all.
