A bold new initiative is aiming to unlock the potential of women’s groups across Kenya through business training, digital tools, and targeted grants.
Launched under the banner Wezesha Mama, the nationwide programme by the M-PESA Foundation seeks to boost entrepreneurship and improve livelihoods for women-led community groups.

The initiative was unveiled at Mombasa Sports Club during the ongoing M-PESA Sokoni Festival, and forms part of the Foundation’s 15th anniversary celebrations.
With a goal to reach over 500 women’s groups countrywide, Wezesha Mama offers training in financial and digital literacy, branding, marketing, business planning, and product enhancement. The most outstanding groups in each region will be awarded financial grants to accelerate their growth and community impact.
“Wezesha Mama is more than a programme, it’s a movement,” said Nicholas Nganga, Chairman of the M-PESA Foundation.
“When women rise, they uplift families, communities, and entire economies. We’re proud to support their journey across all 47 counties.”
At the conclusion of the 12-month programme, top-performing groups from five regional clusters will receive grants of Ksh 500,000, KES 300,000, and Ksh 200,000 respectively.
All participating groups will also join the M-PESA Mama Network—a growing national community of women entrepreneurs built on peer learning, collaboration, and shared success.
The programme builds on successful past partnerships with organisations like Hand in Hand East Africa and the Rose Women Foundation, both of which have supported thousands of women in accessing business training and financing.
Wezesha Mama is a key feature of the ongoing M-PESA at 18 celebrations and reflects the broader vision of empowering communities through innovation and opportunity.
The campaign will continue through the M-PESA Sokoni roadshow, culminating in a grand festival on Saturday, June 7, at Mombasa Sports Club Grounds.
