Controversial Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko assented the Nairobi City County Bill, 2019 in September after it sailed in the county assembly floor.

Kariobangi South- Uhuru ward MCA Robert Mbatia who sits in the county assembly Finance, Budget and Appropriation Committee commended the new rates but pointed that adjustments on parking rates should have been modest to minimize corruption at the collection level.

Mbatia also raised concerns over the delay to implement the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to decongest the CBD by giving city dwellers an alternative mode of transport.
