Police rescues 62 pupils in Kayole, accuse school owner of human trafficking

Police in Nairobi have rescued 62 pupils, in Obama, Kayole estate. The pupils were gathered in an old church in deplorable condition after the are said to have been transferred from Tassia under unclear circumstances.

The police described the condition as pathetic and worse than the life lived by pigs. The weak structure had no ventilation, toilets or latrines forcing the desperate pupils to use buckets as toilets.

The Bishop who doubles up as the proprietor of the school/church was arrested in the swoop for running the institution illegally. He was also accused of human trafficking.

Other teachers escaped the raid and rescued pupils have been taken to the station where they reunited with their families and friends.

The raid comes days after the government through the ministry of education launched a crackdown targeting poorly constructed schools and unduly registered. Eight pupils perished on Monday after weak structures of Precious Talent Academy in Dagoreti collapsed.

Education Ministry led by CS Prof. George Magoha has since been shut down schools over sub stand structures. The county government of Nairobi has also suspended officials in the inspectorate docket for presiding over construction of such buildings.
