Through a statement, Kenya Power said the outage was a result of flooding in the Nairobi West Substation Thursday night.

Affected areas include Nairobi West, South C, parts of Langata Road, parts of Mbagathi Way, Dam Estate, Civil Servants Estate, Five Star Estate, parts of Lower Hill and environs.

Kenya Power however assured clients that restoration work is currently in progress and teams are working round the clock to restore supply.

The outage comes as most parts of the city were flooded causing motorists to spend the better part of the night in their vehicles waiting for the heavy rain to subside.

Heavy rainfall witnessed in the last 24 hours in many parts of the country is likely to reduce intensity from Friday and Saturday, according to the weatherman.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has come out to caution Kenyans that due to already high water levels in some rivers and other water retention areas, it is likely that the rains may cause flooding over flood plains and other areas not well-drained.

“Mudslides and landslides are also likely to occur on hilly areas of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley due to already saturated soils,” says MET.

Rainfall of more than 30mm has been observed over parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Rift Valley, the Northwest, the South Eastern Lowlands, the Northeast and the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi County.
