Revealed: JamboPay Bribed Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko
JamboPay CEO Danson Muchemi.

JamboPay is an online payment gateway that allows users to securely make and receive payments through mobile phone over internet.

For quite some years now, JamboPay has been part of the system, collecting revenues on behalf of the dysfunctional Nairobi County Government. First for Evans Kidero and now for Mike Sonko.

In Kenya, one has to oil the hands of people who give them jobs, even when they have worked hard for it and as such Danson Muchemi, the Chief Executive of Webtribe Limited operating as JamboPay abided.

One would think Kshs.20 million is a lot, for these corrupt lot, it is pocket change. It is a network of deep operatives who make life easier for themselves but harder for the rest of us, Nairobians.

In their high end offices, they sit pretty buying the local media’s pages to sanitize their images to the public. Corruption and looting funds is the fuel that drives them to win tenders, bribe officials to get away with a lot of illegalities.

Has there ever been any competitive bidding in the work that JamboPay does? In the near past, the former Auditor general Edward Ouko had raised querries on why JamboPay was awarded tender to collect money on behalf of the Nairobi Government by the then Governor Evans Kidero yet, competitors such as Virtual Mobile and Craft Silicon had offered less fees.

EACC

Mike Sonko had a rough time last week, when he was extensively questioned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives over bribes-for-tenders.

Media reports indicates that Sonko received millions in kickbacks from firms that sought to be awarded tenders however, Sonko insists that the money came from land sale and that he was not bribed. Only fools will believe that.

The bribery scheme is a network of well-hidden firms that get tenders for supply of goods and services in Nairobi.

Sonko is lying on some aspects of his testimony to the EACC, though the companies started doing business with him before he was Governor, they have not stopped bribing him for renewed business. And by the way, why was Mike SOnko beung bribed to get Nairobi County tenders when he was nt the governor?

Kenyan Bulletin can confirm that JamboPay is one of those firms that oiled Sonko’s hands.

The Personality and other scams

Danson Muchemi knows much and has built himself to swim with the sharks of Kenyan business world. By associating himself with the likes of Mike Sonko etc, he has become corrupt like him/them.

Most Kenyans should remember that behind his innocent face, lies a greedy monster who will not hesitate to ‘swallow the loot’

In 2018, JamboPay was mentioned in the multi-billion shilling scam at National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).

JamboPay was tapped to install an internally managed system which would have cost between Sh400 million and Sh600 million, the contract it signed was for offering a payment solution to NHIF at a fee of between four and 4.5 per cent of collections.

Between 2014 and August 2018, when NHIF eventually bought its own stand-alone system to which JamboPay would offer only technical support. It was found out that up to Sh1 billion had been lost in commission payments.

Anti-Corruption Court (ACC) chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti had then ordered Mr Muchemi and Mr Muriithi not to enter View Park Towers.

Where are we now?

The young man has joined the bribes-for-business cartel.
