Since their alleged kidnapping on Mombasa Road in Nairobi, two Indian nationals and their Kenyan driver have been missing.
According to reports, in the middle of July, an unmarked automobile was used to kidnap Mohamed Zaid Sami Kidwai, Zulfiqar Ahmed Khan, and their driver Nicodemus Mwania and take them away from the Ole Sereni region.
Armed guys took them up while their car was stopped, then they vanished. At the site, their automobile was discovered.
Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi says the three were abducted because they supported President William Ruto.
The investigation into the matter was transferred on September 15 to the National Police Service’s Internal Affairs Unit.
IAU was instructed to assume control of the investigation and submit a report on its findings after 21 days.
This is in response to demands from the family and certain state authorities that the incident be looked into and, if necessary, those responsible punished.
As the new team assumed leadership, the DCI was instructed to turn over the incident probe file.
Tension has risen after a recent report indicated that three bodies of unknown people had been retrieved from river Yala this month.
Speaking to the press on Friday, Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid said residents continue to retrieve more bodies from the river.
“As recently as this month, bodies are still being collected from the river. Three this month which we are still trying to identify. We urge this new government to address the issue of enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings as a matter of urgency. The vice has been going on for too long,” Khalid said.
The three bodies have been retrieved from River Yala near the same spot where more than 30 others were found dumped near Ndanu Falls, at the beginning of the year.
Residents suspect two vehicles—a black double cabin and a white Toyota Probox—could have been used to transport the bodies to be dumped into the river.
“The two vehicles have been spotted on several occasions around Ndanu Falls, and we believe they are the vehicles that those involved in the deaths have been using to transport the bodies and dump them in the river,” said Okite Okero, a body retriever in Yala.
“We suspect the victims are killed elsewhere and bodies dumped here. The bodies are chocking the small morgue with a capacity of 17 bodies at Yala sub-county hospital and should be disposed of,” Yala OCPD Charles Chacha said on phone.
The two Indians are said to have been part of a team that had come to Kenya to join an IT team for Ruto to run the election campaigns.
This will be a crucial case to be watched under the new regime, which has been protesting police harassment.
In Kenya, there is no national missing people database. Each police station does, however, maintain a list of people who have disappeared in their area.
