The officer commanding Police Station (OCS) at Rongai Police Station is a very sad man after his extortion ring was busted and exposed on Twitter.

It all started when Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi broke his silence over the harassment of traders that are selling alcohol on take-away basis after the new measures announced to curb the spread of Covid-19 by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Twitter hashtag #StopPoliceExtortion which heavily revealed how Police officers in the sleepy Kajiado town were scamming Wines and Spirits sellers gained traction and people began sharing under it how the security forces have overstepped their mandate.

The irate OCS is said to have responded by threatening to take all those arrested to court tomorrow (Monday).

His initial plan of extorting Sh10, 000 from all those arrested might have triggered the move as the plan, to harass the traders was not sanctioned by the county govt.

“EXTORTION ALERT: Ongata Rongai police station police officers passing around wines and spirits shops and arresting owners. They say the cashbail for opening a shop against the orders of the OCS is Ksh. 10,000. Is @IG_NPS aware of this?”, Nyakundi first wrote.

Then added,” Why are only wines and spirits shops in Ongata Rongai being closed by the police? Shops in other regions are open. Do we have different laws for each region IGP, Please clarify this.An official from Kajiado county government tells me they are not aware of any directive to shot down wines and spirits shops within the county. IGP must explain why there is a crackdown in Ongata Rongai. #StopPoliceExtortion. After exposing the Rongai police station extortion syndicate, they have now decided to take the arrested people to court tomorrow with trumped up charges instead of fighting crimes. I’ll be in court 2morrow to follow up. Seems IGP is protecting the cartel #StopPoliceExtortion”.

The hashtag also covered the police extortion rings on Wines and Spirits happening in Kitengela town too.

The panicky OCSs from Kajiado County towns of Ongata Rongai and Kitengela are extortionists and have now been exposed.
