Ruto, CSs Donate Salaries

President Wiliam Ruto and his Cabinet have resolved to forego a month’s salary to help Kenyans affected by drought.

The decision was reached on Tuesday, November 29, when Ruto chaired the third Cabinet meeting.

“In solidarity with all Kenyans affected by the ongoing drought, the meeting resolved that all members will forgo one-month salary as their individual and collective contribution towards the ongoing State interventions that support all the Kenyans affected by the drought,” State House said.

The entire Cabinet will contribute an estimated Sh23 million, comprising salaries of 22 Cabinet secretaries, the President, the Deputy President, and the Attorney General.

The President earns Sh1,443,750 per month while the Deputy President earns Sh1,227,188. The Attorney General and CSs both pocket a gross salary of Sh924,000.

The Cabinet meeting commended the efforts of theNational Drought Response Steering Committee, chaired by Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, towards mobilizing resources to address the drought crisis.

”The meeting hailed the growing partnership between the State, Development Partners and the nation’s private sector that is taking place under the auspices of the National Steering Committee on Drought Response,” read the State House communiqué.
