Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa and senior executives visited Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital to assess Laikipia Health Service’s needs, focusing on maternal healthcare and child welfare.

The delegation, greeted by Deputy Governor Reuben Kamuri, Health CECM Albert Taiti, Health CO Dr. Timothy Panga, and NTRH CEO Dr. Sammy Kilonzo, reviewed the hospital’s operations and needs that align with Safaricom Foundation’s community support initiatives.

Dr. Kilonzo shared details about the hospital’s strengths and areas requiring improvement, particularly the need for an expanded and modernized New Born Unit (NBU).

This unit would be fully equipped to handle the hospital’s patient load and offer specialized care to boost newborn survival rates.

Other needs discussed included upgrading the maternity unit and enhancing the ambulance system, all intended to address factors that contribute to maternal mortality.

During the visit, the Safaricom Foundation team distributed mama kits to new mothers in the maternity unit, supporting both their care and that of their newborns.

Deputy Governor Kamuri expressed gratitude to Mr. Ndegwa and Safaricom for considering Laikipia County in their plans for community empowerment, highlighting the county’s openness to partners who can contribute to the county’s development agenda through the CIDP (County Integrated Development Plan).
