In a statement addressing stakeholders, Ndegwa acknowledged the impact of the outage, attributing it to reduced bandwidth on critical internet traffic cables.

He emphasized that Safaricom is actively working to restore full service capabilities swiftly.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused by the network disruption on June 25th. This was primarily due to reduced bandwidth on key internet traffic cables, affecting both Safaricom and the broader telecommunications sector,” Ndegwa clarified.

“Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure normalcy returns to our services as quickly as possible.”

Regarding data privacy concerns raised on social media, Ndegwa reaffirmed Safaricom’s commitment to protecting customer information in compliance with Kenya’s stringent data privacy laws.

“At Safaricom, we prioritize the confidentiality of our customers’ data. We do not disclose personal information or location data unless legally required to do so,” he assured.

Ndegwa also addressed Safaricom’s participation in the legislative process, highlighting the company’s role in advocating for policies that foster digital inclusion and support Kenya’s growing digital economy.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, Safaricom actively engages in public consultations such as those related to the Finance Bill. We advocate for regulatory frameworks that benefit our customers and promote sustainable business practices,” Ndegwa added.

In closing, Ndegwa extended condolences to the families affected by the unfortunate incidents during the protests and commended Kenyans for their commitment to peaceful civic engagement.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families who lost loved ones during the recent demonstrations. Safaricom stands with the Kenyan people in their pursuit of democratic rights and social progress,” he concluded.
