Safaricom PLC has posted a 11.2% increase in total revenue, reaching Ksh 388.7 billion ($3 billion) for the year ending March 31, 2025 — the highest ever recorded by a company in the region.
Net income also rose 10.8% to Ksh 69.8 billion, capping off a five-year strategy that shifted the company from telecom to tech.

The firm will distribute Ksh 48.08 billion to shareholders, adding a final dividend of 65 cents per share to the earlier interim dividend of 55 cents.
This growth came from several fronts: introduction of new digital products, stronger footing in Ethiopia, and Ksh 18 billion invested in projects covering education, health, environment, and economic opportunity.
Over 13 million people benefited from these programmes.
The strategy that guided this transition concluded this year, moving the company from voice-based services to full-scale technology-driven offerings across Kenya and Ethiopia.
“This performance shows what’s possible when teams commit to a long-term plan, customers stay loyal, and innovation remains constant,” said CEO Dr. Peter Ndegwa.
Earnings Before Interest and Taxes jumped 29.5% to Ksh 104.1 billion.
Ethiopia now brings in nearly 10% of overall revenue.
According to Safaricom, the peak spending period in Ethiopia is now over, and profits are expected by 2027.
Safaricom Ethiopia doubled its user base to 8.8 million, with 3,141 sites live.
M-PESA now has 2.4 million users in Ethiopia, handling Ksh 20.6 billion in transactions during the year.
In Kenya, service revenue reached Ksh 364.3 billion, a 10.5% gain.
M-PESA — now in its 18th year — brought in Ksh 161.1 billion, a 15.2% increase, and made up 44.2% of total service revenue.
Growth came from more businesses and users turning to digital payments, credit tools, and wealth-related services.
Connectivity in Kenya brought in Ksh 185.2 billion, growing 6.5%, thanks to more 4G usage.
Mobile data grew 15.2% to Ksh 72.9 billion, while voice, despite global trends, still saw a 1.6% increase to Ksh 80.8 billion.
“These results set the stage for what comes next,” said Dr. Ndegwa. “We look ahead to 2030 with one aim — to lead as a purpose-driven tech firm serving Kenya, Ethiopia, and beyond.”
