The more than 26 million M Pesa will be able to receive money from over twenty countries across the world after Safaricom partnered with Ria Money Transfer which is a subsidiary of Euronet Worldwide Inc.
Euronet is a world leader in cross boarder money transfers.
Ria’s seamless technology will enable customers to enjoy a one touch experience when handling transactions.
This is in efforts to increase the value services the telecommunication giant is providing to its clientele. Offering them with the choice and power to receive money directly was one way to do so.
Customers sending money via Mpesa will be informed of the transfer charges before money.
Some of the Ria’s top markets in the world include United States of America, Britain, Canada, Australia and Spain.
Mpesa has experienced an upward growth since its inception in 2006. It remains the most preffered remittance channel for transferring money by Kenya from the diaspora sending money back home to their families.
Statistics from the central bank of Kenya show that more that 40% of the international transfers are now through Mpesa.
