Nairobi County senator Johnson Sakaja has this morning presented himself at Kilimani Police Station after reports went round that police had launched a manhunt.
Sakaja went into hiding after he was arrested for flouting COVID-19 protocols that bar people from drinking alcohol at nightclubs and curfew restrictions that prevent citizens from being outside after 9 pm and before 4am.
The Nairobi senator who chairs the Senate ad hoc committee on Covid-19, was arrested on Saturday morning at Ladies Lounge in the same area while drinking in the company of three other unidentified persons.
Sakaja walked into Kilimani Police Station accompanied by Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr and lawyer John Khaminwa. The same way politicians do instead of apologizing to the people.
Nairobi police boss Philip Ndolo told The Star earlier that the senator had promised to present himself to them but went AWOL.
“He has not recorded the statement but he will be recording anytime. We don’t know his whereabouts. He said he would present himself to the police. We hope he will keep his word,” Ndolo said
Sakaja is said to have spent the weekend at a senior civil servant’s home in Karen to avoid being arrested and spending the weekend behind bars.
Intoxicated and violent Sakaja had allegedly threatened to have all the officers involved in his drunken arrest transferred within 24 hours.
