The dons union Kenyatta University branch has now taken issue with the new proposal by Teachers Service Commission to scrap off the Bachelor in Education program and replaced it with Bachelor of Science and Post Graduate Diploma in Education saying the proposal is ill-advised and not attainable.
According to Universities Academic Staff Union KU chapter George Makokha the stakeholders were not consulted which includes the union, university senates and even university commission and therefore it was rushed to fit certain individuals within education sector.
‘‘If there is any problem with the quality of education at the universities and in particular the B.Ed program, it is attributed to factors such as class size, lack of learning resources demoralized staffs etc. Therefore the problem cannot be addressed by scrapping the program,’’ he said.
‘‘TSC CEO Nancy Macharia is a product of BE.d program so if she doubts the quality of education in Kenya she should be the first one to surrender all her certificates,’’ he added.
The proposals are expected to take effect as from September this year.
