Security heightened as Madaraka Day celebrations take shape – KBC

All is set for the 58th Madaraka Day Celebrations at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu County today.

An expected 3000 guests are expected to attend the event and a majority are already at the venue.

Invitation is by card only with Kisumu residents urged to follow the proceedings from home.

Security officers had a rough time trying to control a section of residents who turned up at the Stadium without pasess.

Calm was however restored and security heightened ahead of the ceremony.

Republic of Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye will be the guest of honour in the event.

Invited Guests are expected to be seated by latest 10am.

Chief of the Defence Forces, Gen. R K Kibochi, EGH, MGH, is expected to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium at 10:35, followed by Cabinet Secretaries, Chief Justice as well as Speakers of Parliament.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, Sports CS Amina Mohammed, Kisumu Governor Anyang ny’ongo, Siaya Senator James Orengo as well as a host of other leaders have already arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium for the celebrations.

Deputy President William Ruto is expected to arrive at the Stadium at 10:45am.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and the First Lady will leave Kisumu State Lodge at 10:45AM and are expected at the Stadium at 10:55am
