Learners at Oboch Primary School in Siaya County are set to enjoy new classrooms and improved facilities, thanks to funding from the M-Pesa Foundation.

This initiative falls under the Foundation’s “Citizens of the Future” programme, an effort aimed at improving infrastructure in schools that require the most urgent support across the country.
With an investment of Ksh 35 million, the project brought about the construction and furnishing of nine classrooms for primary school learners and three more for early childhood education.
This will help reduce overcrowding and provide students with a more comfortable place to study.
A newly built 40-seater ICT laboratory, fully equipped with modern technology, has been added to expand digital learning opportunities for the school and nearby community.
“Our commitment at M-Pesa Foundation is grounded in the belief that every learner deserves a safe, comfortable space to learn. By investing in education, we open up opportunities for communities and improve livelihoods across all backgrounds,” said Mr. John Ohaga, Trustee, M-Pesa Foundation.
To support hygiene and nutrition needs, the Foundation also built ablution blocks for boys, girls, and staff separately.
A new kitchen with two modern energy-saving jikos was set up to meet the nutritional needs of the learners.
Mrs. Perez Molo, Head of Oboch Primary School, expressed her gratitude for the development.
“We are truly grateful to M-Pesa Foundation for supporting our school. The improved classrooms and new facilities have completely changed our learning environment. Our students can now study better, dream bigger, and perform to their full potential,” she said.
In November 2024, M-Pesa Foundation completed a similar project at Kametho Primary School, also in Siaya County, where another Ksh 35 million investment was made to build and improve classrooms and other facilities.
Other counties that have received similar support from the Foundation include Migori, Homa Bay, Meru, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Muranga, Kisii, Bungoma, and Vihiga.
