Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has claimed that his Facebook page has been suspended.

According to Sonko’s post on his Twitter account, his Facebook page was suspended by Meta after a series of criticism of the LGBTQ community.

He said that his page had 2.5 million followers and that the condition of getting back his platform was to apologize to them.

“Wamecomplain to FB mpaka my page of 2,500,000 followers ikakuwa disabled till I apologize to them then appeal to FB,” Sonko said.

The firebrand politician however vowed that he will not apologize and vowed to continue doing what he does on Twitter.

I can’t & will not apologize to them. Hapa tweeter muko has 2,300,000 followers & still growing like Bush fire. ALLUTA CONTINUA,” he added.

This comes amid heated debate in the country, where leaders continue expressing their opinions regarding the recent Supreme Court ruling. The majority decision gave the green light to the registration of LGBTQ associations.

Three judges in the five-judge bench ruled that community members have a right to associate even though the law considers same-sex marriages illegal. Hence, refusal to register them was discriminatory and contravened the law.

The court said that despite homosexuality being outlawed in Kenya, LGBTQ members still have the right to associate.

However, Justices Mohamed Ibrahim and William Ouko dissented and held a firm stance that the law was clear on the illegality of gays and lesbians.

President William Ruto said that the vice of same-sex marriage would not happen in the country, calling upon Kenyans to observe the African traditions and culture regarding marriage.

Sonko has also been very vocal against homosexuality since the Supreme Court ruling that allowed the registration of LGBTQ groups.
