TECNO Mobile who started their business with Africa as their main market, and later expanded to other parts Asia, and Latin America, are now cementing their status as a huge seller of phones by launching a new production facility in Turkey. This comes a couple of months after TECNO officially entered the Turkish market.
The new production facility is a $35 Million investment by the company. TECNO Turkey manager says the facility will employ 1,000 people in its fist year of operation. As the company plans to acquire 10% of Turkey’s smartphone market, they will pump in more investment over time.
The devices that will be produced in the Turkish facility will be part of TECNO’s POVA, SPARK, and CAMON series of smartphones. These are budget offerings from the company that have sold huge volumes in the African markets where TECNO has been active including Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana.
TECNO is a subsidiary of Transsion Holdings Limited which operates many other smartphone brands including Infinix and itel. These are brands that have also been particularly targeted for the African market. However, over the years, we’ve seen Transsion shift attention to many other markets across the world.
Just a couple of days ago, TECNO announced Hollywood Star Chris Evans, best known for his role as Captain America in Marvel Movies, as its new Brand Ambassador. TECNO has also been Manchester City’s official partner since 2016.
That shows how hungry TECNO is for global recognition. The same is the case for all Transsion sub-brands. itel has also unveiled Diamond Platnumz, one of Africa’s biggest artistes as its brand ambassador.
As of April 2021, according to TECNO Turkey manager, Transsion has a market value of $24 Billion. This is an increase of over 260% from last year. In 2019, when the company went public, it had a value of $5 Billion. With such growth, there must be something Transsion is doing right.
I am hoping this continued campaign for worldwide expansion will mean TECNO devices will be able to feature way better software than they do right now, plus faster assured updates – something they really lag on currently.
